Friday Night Fever is sweeping suburban Massachusetts,
reinvigorating one of the last bastions of diehard hometown loyalty,
high school football.
Football under the lights on Friday night is a long-established
tradition throughout much of the nation, and now it's becoming a hot
ticket hereabouts.
Lights are up or going up at athletic facilities in town after
town. Attendance is booming at Friday night games. Increased gate
receipts bring smiles to the faces of beleaguered school
administrators struggling to keep athletic programs going in an era
of budget cutbacks.
Saturday afternoon matchups have not been abandoned -- tradition
dies hard in New England, and about 40 percent of the games ...
