Punxsutawney Phil should've stayed in bed.
That was the sense of skeptical New Englanders yesterday, who
reacted to the groundhog's shadow-less prognostication of an early
spring with the storm-hardened knowledge of intelligent, two-legged
beings who simply know better.
"It's a cute thing they do down there, and it's probably very good
for local business," said meteorologist Michael Henry of Weather
Services Corp. in Lexington. "But frankly, I'd put more stock in the
Old Farmer's Almanac, where they're not standing around waiting for
an animal to come out of a hole."
But more than 25,000 people did just that yesterday morning about
90 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, joining the good burghers ...
