Shaking a crying baby out of anger or frustration can lead to its
death, mental retardation, or blindness, and child specialists urge
parents and others to walk away from babies rather than risk hurting
them.
"If you are holding a baby and getting angry because the baby
won't stop crying, put the baby down in a safe place and walk away"
until you are calm or have called someone for help, said Jacy
Showers, director of the Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Plus program
in Pueblo, Colo.
As simple as her advice seems, Showers and others say that
thousands of children, mostly infants between the ages of 2 and 4
