Chuck Bown and Hut Stricklin led second-day qualifying for the
Pepsi 400, earning spots in the 43-car field for today's NASCAR
Winston Cup race in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Only seven drivers attempted to requalify yesterday after
Thursday's time trial, with 39 drivers choosing to stand on their
time even though only the top 20 were assured spots in the field.
Bown turned in a lap averaging 188.127 mph around the 2.5-mile
trioval, significantly better than his 186.335 the previous day, and
will start from the 29th position. Stricklin will be alongside him
after a lap of 188.013, up from 186.401.
