Put me down as sorry that Joe Kennedy is out. I sat by the radio
listening to him quit, and some sirens going past the VFW Post whined
as he talked about how he couldn't run without all "the personal and
family issues."
He concluded he just couldn't turn the media tide around. Lots
of strong politicians have wanted to be governor of the Bay State and
not made it: Kevin White, Frank Bellotti, Bob Quinn, Kevin
Harrington, Frank Hatch. Getting to that third-floor corner office
is harder than it looks. But this is the first time a Kennedy ever
backed out of the saloon before the gunplay commenced.
Joe was the first blue-collar Kennedy in four generations. Not
