Q. I've read that Social Security will start paying new
beneficiaries their benefit payments on the second, third or fourth
Wednesday of each month, rather than the traditional third day of the
month. Why was this change necessary?
A. This change will help us to balance the distribution of Social
Security payments. The new payment dates will spread out calls and
visits to our Social Security offices related to the monthly benefits
throughout the month instead of during the first week of the ...
