Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts tomorrow will present
its revised plan to reorganize into three separate companies, a move
that will affect the underpinnings of the state's largest health
insurer.
The proposal, which will be presented in a public hearing before
state Insurance Commissioner Linda Ruthardt, calls for Blue Cross to
divide into a tax-exempt managed care company, an administrative
services company, and an indemnity insurance company.
Consumer groups, particularly senior citizens who rely on Blue
Cross's Medex indemnity insurance to pay medical expenses not covered
by Medicare, are expected to testify at tomorrow's hearing. Those
