SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina -- Elsewhere, people may walk the
sunny side of the street. But in this shrapnel-torn city, citizens
still opt for the "safe" side, even though the dangerous time is
past.
It has been nearly two years since the mortar shells, incendiary
rockets, and sniper rounds stopped whipping down upon Sarajevo with a
ferocity not felt in Europe since World War II. Today, the cafes are
full, there's laughter in the air, and trendy boutiques are doing
brisk business amid the scorched, shattered blocks of Marshal Tito
Street.
In some ways, though, this remains a city in shock.
