The Globe's position on skating in Boston is interesting and
only a small step toward what could become a giant engine driving
Boston's tourism industry during our slow months, December through
April ("Skating in Boston," editorial, Jan. 2).
I recently proposed, in a series of private letters to
government officials and corporate executives, that we build the
Boston Ice Stadium and Loop. The stadium and other temporary
support structures would be placed around a giant sheet of ice
directly in front of the Hatch Shell.
The Stadium Rink would connect to a one-mile loop that winds
through the Esplanade. This would create a recreational and
competitive facility of immense interest to casual ...
