SAN ANTONIO -- Utah's Britton Johnsen never used a racial slur
during the NCAA tournament semifinals, and he accepted an apology
from his accuser just hours before last night's national
championship loss to Kentucky.
Following Utah's 65-59 victory over the No. 1 Tar Heels
Saturday night, Johnsen said North Carolina's Makhtar Ndiaye spit
on him, and Ndiaye accused Johnsen of using a racial slur.
Utah coach Rick Majerus was so sure Johnsen didn't use the slur
that he had pledged to resign if it turned out to be true.
Yesterday, North Carolina coach Bill Guthridge and Ndiaye met
for about 15 minutes in Chapel Hill, N.C., then issued an apology
to Johnsen, Majerus, and the entire Utah team. ...
