HARTFORD -- This matchup had end-to-end dunkathon written all
over it as soon as the NCAA tournament committee made the pairings
last Sunday.
And that was only accentuated when North Carolina, the No. 1
seed in the East, and Navy, the 16th, lined up for the opening tap
yesterday.
There stood the towering Tar Heels: 6-foot-10-inch Maktar
Ndiaye, 6-9 Ademola Okulaja, 6-9 Antawn Jamison, even 6-7 guard
Vince Carter. Except for 6-11 center Josh Williams, Navy had no one
taller than 6-5.
But it wasn't a dunkathon. The Midshipmen were determined not
to let that happen. They succeeded, but they still couldn't prevent
the inevitable. The Tar Heels were sluggish early and didn't seem
particularly ...
