Ascend Communications will be expanding in Westford, where the California-based company is expected to add 2,400 jobs in the next year or so, according to town officials.

Chiofaro Co. of Boston is planning to construct a 200,000-square-foot office building off Robbins Road that would be rented by Ascend. The proposed 24-acre site is across from the company's current facility.

Ascend, which now has about 450 employees in Westford, produces commercial modems for Internet service providers. Cancer researchers open Lexington site Antigenics, a biotechnology firm based in New York, has opened a research and development center at 128 Spring St. in Lexington, adjoining the Raytheon Co. headquarters ...
