In the baby's world, before anything else, like light before mankind, there is Lambie. Their life together is a union of perfect communication: the baby does all the chattering, and Lambie, enigmatic, ever-present, portable, once-white Lambie, does all the listening. Lambie does not mind taking orders or being held by the teeth. At night, the baby gazes sleepily out from my arms while Lambie gazes out from hers. Lambie is her perfect love.
