When Alaida Levya's son told her to take a flying leap last
Mother's Day, she wasn't offended. She gave him a thumbs up, took a
deep breath, and followed his command. She jumped out of a Cessna at
13,000 feet.
It was Pepe Levya's Mother's Day gift: a sky-diving trip. Alaida,
who is 4-feet-11 and weighs 87 pounds, free-fell for a full minute
before opening her parachute.
"It felt great, like a bird, like an angel," says Alaida, who
lives in Hyde Park.
Alaida has a history of heart problems, asthma, and high blood
pressure, and her doctors had warned her to stay on firm ground. But
she insisted on going up with Pepe, a hairdresser who owns Salon Pepe
Levya in Boston.
