Now that the kiddies are back to school, they are less likely to have unexpected and unwanted encounters with snakes. But up in Ellicott City, the Keyes family will remember a certain black slitherer for a long time.

It was early on a Wednesday in June. Six-year-old Sarah Keyes was climbing into the passenger seat of the family car, which was parked in the driveway beside the Keyes bungalow.
