A study released yesterday found that Redux, the diet drug withdrawn from the market in September because of fears it might cause heart valve problems, may not cause such problems after all.

The study was funded by the drug's marketer, the Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories unit of American Home Products Corp., which said it has "no plans to reintroduce the drug back on the market, given the history and the current legal environment."

But the company and Interneuron Pharmaceuticals Inc., the Lexington company that developed Redux, are likely to use the findings in defending against lawsuits filed by patients who took the diet pill and claim they may have suffered heart damage. The US Food and Drug ...
