The signs are all around us. "For sale" signs. "Sale pending"
signs. "Sold" signs. The real estate market in Massachusetts is on
fire. For the most recent quarter, sales of single-family homes were
the highest since the heady days of the late 1980s. And prices
continue to climb. The average price of a single-family home in
Greater Boston was about $217,000. Real estate experts attribute the
strength to mild weather, low interest rates, and confident buyers.
Textron sale: Closer to home
For Textron Inc., it was a nuts-and-bolts decision. The
Providence-based conglomerate is selling Avco Financial Services to
Associates First Capital Corp. for $3.9 billion in cash. Textron
