The ideal political magazine for our time would be, of course,
COLIN: The Powell Weekly, in which the once and future leader would
be endlessly interviewed, and the most dazzling writers would
commentate on all the things that he might stand for. Gertrude
Himmelfarb on how Powell might be a neo-Victorian, Andrew Sullivan on
how Powell might legalize homosexual marriage, Norman Mailer on how
Powell's politics might be even wilder than Madonna's . . . and so
forth, with lots of photos and drawings of the great polymorph in all
his many guises.
This particular magazine has yet to appear, though Time, Newsweek
and U.S. News are moving swiftly toward it. For the moment, however,
