William Sage is executive vice president of Sage Hotel Corp.,
director of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, and
chairman of the board of The Kenmore Association. During the past
century Kenmore Square has worn many hats and presented a half-
dozen different faces.
This gateway square through which so much of the traffic and
commerce of Boston passes every day had formerly been a center for
fine hotels, the address for Boston's leading doctors, a nightclub
locale, and a fertile retailing area for small shops, restaurants,
and pubs.
The square's strength is its location and diversity. Young mix
with the elderly. College students mingle with businesspeople. Tens
