Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jimmy Haynes made just one mistake
in his first major league start tonight. It was one too many.
After Boston's Dwayne Hosey homered on Haynes's second pitch of
the game, the Orioles were unable to do much of anything against Red
Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield as they succumbed, 2-0, before 41,536
at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
"I was a little nervous in the beginning," Haynes said. "I worked
through the butterflies and once I got my curveball going, I felt
good."
The Orioles were eliminated from the American League East title
race, leaving any slim hopes for a wild-card berth resting on the
four-game series against the New York Yankees that starts Thursday.
