Stan Grossfeld's three-part series, "Food for Thought" was
thought-provoking and informative. However, the final article,
"Genetic engineering debate shifting to America" (Page A1, Sept. 23),
leaves the reader with the impression that the potential benefits of
genetic engineering are very small.
This extreme position is just as wrongheaded as the view that such
research should take place in an unregulated environment. A similar
view predominated early in the century when opponents to the
pasteurization of milk contended that that process would take the
"life" out of milk and ignored the countless benefits, including ...
