OAK BLUFFS -- Marc Hanover thought he had escaped big-city crime when he left Boston for Martha's Vineyard 20 years ago. But two recent drug-related slayings in a town known for its peace and celebrity forced him to acknowledge that even on an island no one is isolated from society's problems.

"The first drug-related death was unfortunate, but it was the first in 20 years," said Hanover, owner of Linda Jean's Restaurant in Oak Bluffs.
