The name "chronic fatigue syndrome" is pathetically inadequate and trivializing for a serious illness. Those who know little about the disease think it is nothing more than being run down, stressed out, depressed, or unable to cope. The frequent reaction to CFS is: "Oh, I think I have that, too. Ha, ha."

Much of this is due to public puzzlement.
