Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts said it wants the
Legislature to shut off enrollment for one year to its Medex Gold
supplemental insurance for seniors who are currently on Medicare.
Advocates for the elderly said the plan to close Medex Gold was
"unacceptable" because it would cut off the only option Massachusetts
seniors will have for unlimited drug coverage.
Medex Gold will be the only insurance plan in Massachusetts that
covers unlimited prescription drugs for seniors starting Jan. 1, when
Medicare health maintenance organizations begin to limit how much
they will pay for drugs.
