PJ HARVEY With the Rachel's At: Avalon, Monday night
The concert began, so to speak, with a five-minute feedback drone
and a barren, red-lit stage. Then, Polly Jean Harvey, a siren
dressed in red and black, entered with her four-piece band and eased
into the show on the quietest possible note, the hushed, somber
"Catherine," followed by "Rope Bridge Crossing." It wasn't exactly
tranquil -- in the former song, Harvey sang, "I damn to hell every
second you breathe" -- but it was evident that this edition of PJ
Harvey was coming from a different place.
PJ Harvey played a 90-minute set to a sold-out crowd at Avalon
Monday night, in support of its fifth album, "Is It Desire?" The
album does not ...
