WARSAW, Poland -- Say "Warsaw" to most Americans and they'll
think of war, death, destruction, Auschwitz. Maybe, on a more
pleasant note, Chopin. While other Eastern European cities have
become favorite post- communist destinations for vacationing
Americans -- Prague is the prime example -- Polish cities have
languished in terms of tourism. Fully 97 percent of the people
checking into Warsaw's finest hotel, the Bristol, are business rather
than leisure travelers.
That's a shame. Warsaw is wonderful, I learned on a recent swing
through Eastern Europe. Part of the trip was business; for the
pleasure part, I linked up with a tour called "Poland, The Baltic
States, Finland and St. Petersburg," ...
