A farmer who buried toxic and hazardous waste on his land in
North Cornwall has been fined by magistrates.
Officers from the Environment Agency visited Tregaddock Farm, St
Mabyn, near Bodmin, after receiving an anonymous tip-off and
discovered waste buried in a field.
The material, which had been buried last October, included tyres,
six 45-gallon drums, 12 sheets of corrugated asbestos and pesticide
containers. The waste was buried in an unlined pit that had been dug
into the bedrock.
Burying waste on farms is banned under the Waste Management
Regulations which came into force on May 15 last year. When he was
questioned, James Mutton, admitted burying the waste without
consulting anyone else.
