MINNEAPOLIS -- The politics of the sometime bowlers in lanes
seven and eight follow the same trajectory as too many of their
rolls: far left of center.
Only one of the six breaks 100; two score 81. Everyone cheers
the rare spare. Gutter balls elicit a group groan. No one really
wins, and no one playing below an impressive collection of neon beer
signs really loses.
That's more than the friends can say about Washington and the
rest of the country these days. A while back, they decided to stop
discussing the presidential impeachment proceedings at the nonprofit
housing agency where they all work. Otherwise, they figured, someone
might quit in a huff.
