Fenway Park must die so that a new ballpark -- and the Red Sox --
shall live.
That is the bottom line in any scheme to build a new ballpark,
those involved in the planning process say.
Debate continues among Red Sox brass about whether the
organization itself should get involved in putting hotels, stores,
and office buildings on the ashes of Fenway Park, or whether to leave
such development to someone else. But there is firm agreement on one
conclusion, advisers to the team say: The land on which Fenway Park
sits is so valuable, it has become a bedrock component of the
financing plan for the new, $350 million, 45,000-seat ballpark.
