Dr. Samuel Stearns, a visiting physician at the Beth Israel
Hospital for 35 years, died Tuesday in his home. He was 87.
Dr. Stearns, who lived most recently in Jamaica Plain, was an
internist and president of the Beth Israel medical staff. He also
was chief of the hospital's diabetes outpatient clinic.
He was born in Chelsea in 1912. He received a bachelor's degree
in 1935 and a master's in 1939, both at the University of Michigan.
He interned at Beth Israel from 1939 to 1943.
From 1943 to 1944, he taught physiology at the Tufts Medical
School. He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine
in 1949 and again ...
