AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Greg Norman was on the 13th hole, a mere stroke
from the lead, some 198 yards from the pin of the par-5 hole. Norman
then took a 4-iron, made his second swing on the hole, and what
ensued "was one the best shots I've hit in a long time."
This was better than Norman could have scripted. Or worse. The
ball flew directly at the stick, rolling some 20 feet beyond, a
straight downhill putt. Norman struck the ball with his putter. It
was sent perfectly into the center of the cup. The eagle had landed.
Perfectly.
Norman now was in the lead, a stroke to the good of the other
player on the 13th green, Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal. An eagle on
the 13th on Sunday afternoon more often ...
