DANCE
"The Nagrin Project" -- the featured attraction at Dance Place
next weekend -- is an extended tribute to a historic, veteran modern
dancer by a younger admirer, Shane O'Hara. It is also a notable
contribution to the documentation, preservation and celebration of a
significant American modern dance pioneer, Daniel Nagrin. In 1983,
Nagrin and O'Hara joined forces to present Nagrin's path-breaking
dances to a new and younger generation, the result of which is "The
Nagrin Project." O'Hara bills himself as a solo dancer, and Nagrin
made his early reputation, starting in the '40s, with solo dances he
choreographed for himself, many of them in the vein of fiery social
protest.
