DETROIT -- When the Red Sox entered Tiger Stadium yesterday
afternoon, the stadium itself was falling down. By night's end,
though, it was the Red Sox who had collapsed.
The Red Sox' season may have imploded yesterday as the team
received grim news on and off the field.
- First, the Red Sox were smashed to bits, 14-5, by the Tigers.
The loss dropped Boston to third place for the first time since May 8
and marked the fifth time this month that the Red Sox have given up
10 runs or more.
- Ace Pedro Martinez underwent a magnetic resonance imaging
examination yesterday morning, and it is unknown when Martinez will
be able to pitch again.
