TORONTO -- Pat Rapp, the Red Sox starter of last resort, and Butch
Huskey, an added starter only two nights ago, made for the unlikely
combination that propelled the Red Sox ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays
again in the wild-card competition with a stunning 8-0 shutout last
night, completing a two-game sweep of their Canadian cousins.
Rapp, who has watched while the Red Sox auditioned such untested
rookies as Jin Ho Cho and Tomokazu Ohka ahead of him in the rotation,
allowed just two singles in eight innings and retired the last 17
batters he faced as the Red Sox won for the eighth time in nine
meetings against Toronto.
