Nomar Garciaparra has often been portrayed by the Red Sox as the
ultimate organization man, especially in contrast to a so-called
malcontent like Mo Vaughn.
But the Sox shortstop, who for the most part has avoided
controversy in his first three seasons, isn't backing down from his
criticism of the way Tom Gordon's elbow injury was handled by the
team.
"We lost our closer," Garciaparra said before last night's game
with the Yankees. "Why did it have to take this long? Wait this
long, so we don't have him next year, too?"
Garciaparra also was annoyed to hear that team doctor Arthur
Pappas said in a radio interview that the shortstop was upset because
his friend, Lou Merloni, hasn't been ...
