While NBC and USA have the lion's share of coverage of the Ryder
Cup, The Golf Channel is hustling its way around The Country Club to
give its estimated 28 million worldwide cable viewers a taste of the
competition.
Twenty-one hours of shows, updates, and analysis is nothing to
discount and exhibits the growth of one of the country's most popular
niche cable services.
Ryder Cup coordinating producer Paul Farnsworth started with The
Golf Channel five years ago. The company, based in Orlando, Fla., was
in its infancy, with about 100,000 households, and Farnsworth
remembers covering events with only three people.
Those days are over. The cable service has 39 people at the Ryder
