Alison Krauss, who calls her music bluegrass, was the big winner
at the 19th annual Country Music Association Awards last night,
broadcast by CBS from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. "What in
the world is going on here, folks?" she asked on her fourth and final
trip to the stage, seeming almost embarrassed at her sudden, albeit
deserved riches.
Krauss probably would have preferred the ceremonies to have been
from the old Ryman Auditorium, the original home of the Grand Old
Opry. But she'll clearly enjoy her four awards, including Female
Vocalist of the Year and the Horizon Award as top newcomer (after six
