A resilient Navy defense did its part today against Virginia Tech
in a worthy performance. But the Midshipmen's normally effective
offense couldn't produce any points off four Hokies turnovers -- or
at any other time, for that matter.
Navy's offensive futility, personified by quarterback Chris McCoy
and his one rushing yard, translated into a 14-0 defeat before 31,114
at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
It was the first time Navy (2-3) has been shut out since a 28-0
loss Oct. 23, 1993 at Louisville. Navy hadn't been shut out at home
since Sept. 26, 1992, when it lost to Rutgers, 40-0.
