Three years ago, Virginia Tech fans were calling for Coach Frank
Beamer's head. Three consecutive bowl berths later, they all want to
shake his hand.
After a 2-8-1 showing in 1992 -- when the Hokies lost seven games
after leading in the fourth quarter -- Virginia Tech has put together
three straight winning seasons, and is beginning to establish itself
as a perennial top 25 team. The Hokies moved back into the Associated
Press poll this week at No. 21 after their 31-7 win last weekend
against Syracuse. A victory against Temple on Saturday at RFK Stadium
would clinch at least a tie for Virginia Tech's first Big East
championship.
