WENTWORTH, N.H. - The largest land and air search in New Hampshire
history ended yesterday when officials identified the wreckage of a
fallen Lear jet in the western White Mountains as the mystery plane
that disappeared on Christmas Eve 1996.
A forester found the wreckage Thursday while surveying remote,
private land in Wentworth, said Fish and Game Colonel Ron Alie. The
land's owner informed officials yesterday. The area was 45 minutes
away from any road, Alie said.
Officials said the charter plane was identified by a registration
number on an intact piece of wreckage and that some of the clothing
belonging to the two pilots was found at the site.
