PLYMOUTH - Before it opened in September 1998, amid a storm of
opposition from local school officials, it looked like the Rising
Tide Charter School wouldn't float.
But now, as officials and parents at this town's only charter
school prepare to enter its third year, they see relatively smooth
sailing ahead.
After a lottery drawing on Tuesday for the next school year, the
independent public school, which has 216 students in grades 5 through
8 from Plymouth and surrounding communities, now has a total of 56
students on its waiting list for the next school year. Based on last
year's experience, the list is likely to grow over the year as more
