Article: HARVARD VANGUARD TO ACCEPT BLUE CROSS PATIENTS

Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates said yesterday it will accept patients insured by Blue Cross starting April 1, a development that could hurt Blue Cross's struggling competitor, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.

The four-year contract signed Monday night is a major step forward for Harvard Vanguard's 550 doctors, who broke off from Harvard Pilgrim two years ago and have been struggling to achieve independence ever since.
