NEW YORK - Mike Stanley is probably going to make a fine big
league manager someday. Stanley's instincts, smarts, and
communication skills have caught the attention of baseball people
throughout the American League.
Maybe that's why Stanley isn't pouting or ripping his manager at a
time when it appears the popular first baseman/designated hitter
might be the odd man out in Jimy Williams's new defensive alignment.
After Jose Offerman was finally activated Saturday, Williams put
Offerman at first base and Jeff Frye at second in Sunday's win over
the Braves. Prior to Offerman's trip to the disabled list, Williams
