WILMINGTON, Del. - The stage was in France, but you didn't need
subtitles to figure out the plot to last weekend's LPGA Tour stop in
Evian-Les-Bains. The word rivalry is universal and requires no
translation.
When Annika Sorenstam defeated Karrie Webb on the first hole of a
playoff in the Evian Masters it did much more than secure the biggest
payday ($270,000) in women's professional golf; it established the
presence of something far more priceless - confidence.
