Q. Please correct your statement about household plastic wrap
being effective to stop the transmission of HIV virus that causes
AIDS. It is designed to be porous, and is not effective if used as a
dental dam during oral sex.

A. There are mixed messages about what kind of protective barriers
to use during oral sex to protect against sexually transmitted
diseases including HIV because there has not yet been enough reliable
research. Nothing is 100 percent safe. Planned Parenthood and other
health organizations do suggest using plastic wrap if you aren't able
