The Rev. J. Walter Sillen of Bedford, former pastor of First
Baptist Church of Boston, died Thursday in Massachusetts General
Hospital. He was 89.
Born in New York, Rev. Sillen graduated from Quincy High School,
Gordon College, and Andover-Newton Theological Seminary. He earned a
master's degree from Brown University.
Prior to being a pastor at First Baptist Church, Rev. Sillen also
was a pastor in Waltham, New Bedford, Watertown, Lawrence, and
Columbus, Ohio, where he was president of the Columbus-area Council
of Churches.
After service in Boston, he became director of alumni affairs and
placement at Andover-Newton Theological Seminary, and was president
of the General Theological Library ...
