Once considered one of the NFL's softer teams, the Denver Broncos
made a statement about toughness Monday night. No one was tougher
than Mark Schlereth.
The Broncos might have exchanged blows with the Oakland Raiders
and beat the Raiders at their own game, 27-0, but it was Schlereth
who climbed out a hospital bed earlier in the day, unhooked some IVs
and played the first half at left guard.
Schlereth, a former Washington Redskin, had surgery Sunday night
to have a kidney stone removed. Less than 24 hours later, looking
pale and sickly, he joined his teammates.
