Mark McGwire missed the All-Star Game with a sore right knee and
now he's on the disabled list for the first time since 1996. The St.
Louis Cardinals placed McGwire on the 15-day disabled list yesterday,
retroactive to July 7, because of patella tendinitis, a condition
that has bothered him since spring training and worsened over the
last seven weeks . . . The Arizona Diamondbacks activated third
baseman Matt Williams and first baseman Erubiel Durazo from the
disabled list . . . Los Angeles Dodgers closer Jeff Shaw, who hasn't
pitched since June 26, was activated from the 15-day DL . . . Atlanta
Braves manager Bobby Cox, who managed the National League in
Tuesday's All-Star Game, was ...
