A residential development with 450 housing units is being planned
for a 70-acre tract that Fairfax City officials say could be
archaeologically significant.
The land, owned by members of the Farr family for more than a
century, is worth more than $7.5 million and is within a five-minute
walk of Old Town Fairfax. Before being allowed to build there, the
developer will have to meet several conditions aimed at protecting
the historical ambiance of the 6 1/2-square-mile city surrounded by
Fairfax County.
The proposed development is a project of Diane Cox Basheer Inc.,
which wants to build a mix of town houses and single-family houses
priced from $200,000 to $500,000.
