Want luck for the New Year? Don't rely on a mere New Year's toast
to bring the promise of good fortune. Because, in the true tradition
of "you are what you eat," eating the right things may bring the
luck, prosperity, and health you seek. And though foie gras, caviar,
and vintage champagne might make you feel like the world is your
oyster, eating grapes, lentils, and suckling pig could be a wiser
choice. You'll soon understand why.
Almost every culture has centuries-old food customs that are
steeped in superstition and intended to lend culinary significance to
